Vitamin C Powder Vitamin C Powder

Doctor’s Best Vitamin C Powder is a product in concentrated powder with the pure form of vitamin C – Quali®-C ascorbic acid.

Ascorbic acid is the best known and the most popular vitamin with multiple effects on the human body. Its main functions are: improving the immune response, the antioxidant effect, supporting the circulatory system, and participating in collagen biosynthesis and maintaining normal functions of connective tissue.

People interested in supplementing vitamin C should be aware of an important fact. Synthetically produced vitamin C is as effective as that of natural origin, as in both cases it is the same chemical compound that has an identical effect on the organism.

For clarity, vitamin C is considered natural when obtained directly from fruit or vegetables in the process of extraction, while the synthetic one is a result of a biotechnological process. Vitamin C obtained in that way is identical with the one that occurs naturally. Eating a plant rich in vitamin C is better than a supplement for the sole reason of consuming many other compounds essential for normal functioning, including those facilitating vitamin absorption.

Demand for vitamin C depends on many factors, such as age, sex, weight and physiological condition. An increased demand is observed in people suffering from hypertension, diabetes, as well as smokers, alcohol addicts, pregnant and breastfeeding women, and people under chronic stress. The organism’s need for ascorbic acid grows during heavy and long physical effort, and vomiting; they also accompany the loss of appetite and functional bowel disorders.

Vitamin C deficiency most frequently manifests itself through overall weakness, feeling tired, lower physical capacity, increased vulnerability to infections, impeded wound healing, bleeding gums, disorders in collagen synthesis, and distortions of all other processes where ascorbic acid is active. Moreover, long-term vitamin C deficiencies can increase the risk of atherosclerosis and cancer, and they can cause hypertension. The group of risk of vitamin C disorders are elderly people, alcohol addicts, smokers and people who take certain drugs (like aspirin, sulphonamides, barbiturates).

Ascorbic acid can be a donor of two electrons, thanks to which it can take part as a cofactor in many enzymatic reactions that take place in the organism. Vitamin C is also the best known antioxidant. Thanks to its antioxidant abilities, ascorbic acid protects cells from the activity of free radicals and prevents the occurrence and progression of heart and blood vessel diseases.

Free oxygen radicals play a very important role in many biological processes when the system is balanced. When they gather excessively as a result of various factors, the redox balance is disturbed and reactive oxygen species start to have a negative effect on every cell in the organism. They cause DNA changes, damage cell structure and initiate cancerous processes. Thanks to its strong antioxidant properties, vitamin C wipes out free radicals, reducing the damage of DNA, but also of proteins and lipids, thanks to which it reduces the risk of developing cancer.

Vitamin C is essential for the normal functioning of the immune system. It participates in immunomodulatory processes and stimulates interferon production. It has been documented to increase immunity by the activity of natural killer cells, but also T and B lymphocytes which, apart from eliminating pathogens, also fight cancer cells. Ascorbic acid also affects the mobility and activity of monocytes, granulocytes and macrophages, as well as the production of some classes of immunoglobulins.

Collagen biosynthesis belongs to the most important biological functions of vitamin C in the human body. According to reports from various sources, collagen can constitute even 25-40 per cent of the total amount of proteins in the system. Collagen supports the structure of skin, teeth, bones, connective tissue, cartilage and cornea. Ascorbic acid participates in the hydroxylation of proline residues and lysine to hydroxyproline and hydroxylysine. It delivers electrons to enzymes that participate in hydroxylation, which results in the conversion of procollagen to proper collagen.

Vitamin C takes part in the synthesis of hormones and neurotransmitters, e.g. noradrenaline. Ascorbic acid cooperates with hydroxylases which participate in the conversion of steroids and fats (e.g. cholesterol into bile acids). It increases the absorbability of non-heme iron and calcium. It reduces iron(III) to iron(II), which is of great significance, as iron can be absorbed in the duodenum only in the reduced form, Fe(II).

Moreover, vitamin C participates in carnitine biosynthesis, the regeneration of tissues during wound healing, regulating arterial pressure; it also helps to maintain healthy gums, reduces glucose concentration in the blood in the case of hyperglycaemia and reduces fasting sugar levels in people with diabetes.

Vitamin C

Information

Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) it is a vitamin soluble in body fluids, can be taken from foods (fruits and vegetables), or as drug derived synthetically. The largest of its resources can be found in broccoli, Brussels sprout, kale, black currant fruit and hawthorn, citrus fruits, tomatoes, Savoy cabbage, potatoes. In fact, intake of vitamin C of the food products does not limit the absorbed quantity. Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is a potent antioxidant, it is an antitoxic, increasing the immune system due to the elimination of risk of bacterial contamination. Vitamin C prevents rupture of blood vessels, affects the blood cholesterol level. It substantially increases the absorption of iron. Inhibits the growth of cancer cells. Lowers stress levels.
Vitamin C deficiency causes abnormal development of connective tissue, cracking capillaries, abnormal calcification of bone tissue, impaired
absorption of iron, scorbutus. With the lack of vitamin C, all kinds of injuries do not heal up properly. Vitamin C deficiency can be caused by smoking; each cigarette is destroying up to 100 mg of vitamin C.
Dosage: The demand is 60-80 mg daily. It does not limit the ability to consume higher doses. Some side effects may occur only with longer
taking of synthetic vitamin C.

Ascorbic acid

Information

Ascorbic acid – vitamin C. Its biologically active form is the L-isomer, which negatively rotates the polarised light, so that it is a dextroisomer (laevorotatory vitamin C does not exist). It is a strong antioxidant; it reduces the amounts of free radicals, which reduces oxidative stress, a factor leading to cell apoptosis, which is why it is indicated to be a cause for premature ageing.

It supports the immune system functions and increases body system immunity. It is an essential element of the collagen synthesis path, which is why it positively affects the condition of connective tissue. Hence, it promotes also wound healing and increases the durability of capillary vessel. It is involved in transformations of tyrosine and carnitine as well as of some nutrients, so that it affects metabolism. It can also have an impact on the nervous system functions, as it reduces mental fatigue.

Higher supply of vitamin C is especially recommended in the periods of more intensive body system burden, after infections and in order to accelerate regeneration. The indications for increased supply of the vitamin are also hard physical work or intensive trainings.
