Methylation processes are constantly occurring at many levels of the human body and are involved in a huge number of biochemical transformations that influence health. They determine the formation of compounds such as creatine, carnitine, coenzyme Q10, melatonin, choline, glutathione (a powerful antioxidant) or neurotransmitters responsible for the proper functioning of the brain. Methylation processes are also crucial for the proper course of the Krebs cycle, in which energy is generated in the form of ATP, as well as for amino acid metabolism and detoxification reactions in the liver. In addition, methylation is responsible for regulating the expression of some defective genes and thus protects the body against, e.g., the development of cancer.

A side product of the methylation reaction is homocysteine – a sulfuric amino acid that is formed from methionine. It is an important compound for the functioning of the nervous system and is a donor of methyl groups. However, too high concentration of homocysteine adversely affects the body, induces inflammation and contributes to the formation of many diseases, especially those related to the cardiovascular system. Methylation disorders may lead to a decrease in homocysteine neutralization efficiency, which may quickly lead to hyperhomocysteinemia and the afore-mentioned diseases. Besides, methylation disorders may result in the formation of cancer cells, increase oxidative stress; they also disrupt the metabolism of amino acids and slow down energy production.

Methylation disorders are very often caused by deficiencies of vitamins and compounds found naturally in the body. These include, e.g., vitamin B12, B6, folic acid, choline or S-adenosylmethionine. In order to increase the efficiency of methylation processes, it is worth to replenish these deficiencies. This is to be achieved by using proven dietary supplements that are available in our store. In addition, we offer special multicomponent formulas that support methylation and regulate homocysteine levels.
