Minerals, like vitamins, are exogenous compounds that are necessary for the proper functioning of the body. Classification of the minerals is based on considering the systemic daily demand for them. Taking this criterion into account, we distinguish macronutrients (magnesium, phosphorus, calcium, chlorine, potassium, sodium, sulfur) and micronutrients (iodine, iron, boron, copper, chromium, zinc, selenium, molybdenum, manganese, fluorine, cobalt, vanadium). A separate problem is the anti-nutritive substances (e.g. phytates) present in food, which significantly limit the absorption of minerals.
