L-ornithine alpha-ketoglutarate is a salt of glutaric acid and non-protein amino acid (ornithine) in one molecule, which allows to achieve better properties and strengthening ornithine action (synergy). Ornithine is an endogenous amino acid, not building muscle proteins. Arginine is a precursor of ornithine in the human body, and it is responsible for degradation of amino acids and removal of the highly toxic ammonia from the body. Ammonia is combined with acid aspartate in argininosuccinic, transformed into arginine and fumarate. Arginine decomposes into urea and ornithine, and the cycle of transformations starts again. Ornithine is responsible in the body for the proper course of the urea cycle, takes part in the synthesis of polyamines, which is affecting liver regeneration.
The sports supplementation, ornithine alpha-ketoglutarate is used for enhancing pre- and post-workout supplements (NO-boosters), in order to save arginine reserves and to improve the synthesis of arginine nitrogen oxides.
Dosage: There are no specific standards for daily consumption. Usually in supplementation:a dose of 200-1500 mg per day.
