Inositol Powder Inositol Powder

Now Foods Inositol Powder is a dietary supplement which contains inositol in the most bioavailable and biologically active form of myo-inositol (MI). A convenient powder formula provides the body with 100% of pure active substance without unnecessary fillers and anti-caking agents which are used in tablets or capsules.

The preparation is recommended especially for regulating the function of the nervous and endocrine system. It supports effectively the treatment of PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) and infertility. It can be also helpful in the therapy for metabolic syndrome. It is also effective in the case of eating disorders (especially bulimia and compulsive overeating), prevents depression and promotes cognitive functions.

Inositol  is a general name used for nine forms of the same compound which differs only in their structural formula. It is often referred to as vitamin B8. In fact, it is a pseudovitamin beacuse the body can synthesise inositol by itself. Unfortunately, these amounts are too small to meet fully the body’s requirements.

Inositol is present in all body cells, hence its enormous role in proper functioning of the body. Many clinical studies have proven that an increased intake of inositol and the maintenance of its optimal levels can improve our health.

Inositol for the nervous system
Inositol, along with choline, is one of the most important building blocks of cell membranes. Its primary function consists in enhancing the efficiency of cell signalling. This compound stabilises cell membrane structure, facilitates the communication and transmission of nerve impulses, improves signalling functions and synaptic transmission between neurons. It results in better memory, boosted alertness, concentration, focus and mental clarity.

All the most crucial neurotransmitters (dopamine, serotonin, norepinephrine) use inositol as a second messenger. According to scientists, inositol can reverse desensitization of receptors and thus increase their sensitivity to serotonin and dopamine. That is why taking inositol brings many benefits for your mental well-being – it improves the mood, relieves anxiety and fights panic attacks.

Inositol for the endocrine system
Inositol has a significant impact on regulating the function of both male and female endocrine system. It acts as a precursor in the production of second hormone messengers, is necessary for the proper process of spermatogenesis (100 g of semen contains up to 53 mg of inositol).

Inositol shows great efficacy in treating polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and helps reduce unpleasant symptoms of this disease. It balances estrogen and androgen levels, reduces the risk of endometrial hyperplasia, prevents hirsutism and fights acne. It aids in restoring regular menstrual cycles and increases the rate of ovulation. For that reason, it is often called a “fertility vitamin”.

In the course of clinical studies, the efficacy of inositol has been proven in relieving symptoms of PMS (premenstrual syndrome) and PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder).  Women taking 12 g of inositol daily for 6 months reported a decrease in frequency of depressive episodes and mood swings, resolution of pain in the spine area, menstrual cycle regulation and reduction of heavy bleeding.

The prevention of insulin resistance
Inositol helps solve the problem of insulin resistance which is often correlated with hormonal disorders and PCOS. It improves the sensitivity of epithelial tissue receptors to insulin and prevents excessive release of this substance. Such action helps to decrease naturally glucose blood levels and minimises the incidence of type 2 diabetes.

Regulation of the lipid profile
Inositol acts as a lipotropic factor It aids in the emulgation and breakdown of fats, supports their transport in the body, prevents lipid accumulation in the arteries and organs (e.g. in the liver).

By improving lipid metabolism, inositol contributes to regulating cholesterol concentration and can be used for lowering low density lipoprotein levels (so-called “bad” cholesterol). At the same time, it also boosts the levels of the beneficial LDL cholesterol. As a result, it minimises the risk of atherosclerosis and other cardiovascualr diseases.

To sum up, Inositol Powder is a supplement with many benefits for your health and condition of the body. It is a valuable nutrient which plays a crucial role in cell signalling, regulates your mood, improves insulin sensitivity and boosts fertility. It is recommended especially for individuals exposed to chronic stress which can impair the function of the nervous and endocrine system.

Myo-inositol

Information

Myo-inositol - the most frequent naturally occurring stereoisomer of inositol, a 6-carbon sugar with pro-health properties, also called vitamin B8. Its sources in food are mainly citruses, legumes and nuts. Human organism has the ability of its endogenous synthesis, it is the component of phosphatidylinositol, which is a precursor for some hormones (including insulin) and secondary transmitters responsible for processing intercellular signalization.

Supplementation with myo-inositol demonstrates the ability to increase insulin sensitivity, thanks to which it may be successfully used by people dealing with insulin resistance. It also reduces hyperandrogenemia. Due to these scopes of effectiveness, myo-inositol is recommended to women with polycystic ovary syndrome and it is indicated as the most effective form of reducing the symptoms of PCOS. It is conducive to proper menstrual cycle.

Moreover, myo-inositol demonstrates positive influence on mental functions. It is conducive to well-being, may have anti-depressant effect and reduce anxiety attacks. For this reason, it is used as an additive to energy drinks.

For therapeutic purposes, myo-inositol is most frequently used with folic acid.
