Chromium belongs to the group of trace elements. It was discovered in 1790, but its biological importance wasn’t within the interests of scientists until the late 50s of the twentieth century. They have proven that chromium is essential to life, although the body needs it in very small amounts. Importantly, chromium is not stored in the system, hence the need to systematically supplement its level. An increased chromium demand is observed among physically active people or those who are exposed to chronic stress, and whose diet is based mainly on carbohydrates.

Chromium is a key regulator of glucose and insulin metabolism. As part of the compound called Glucose Tolerance Factor (GTF), it optimizes insulin action and promotes normal blood glucose levels. In addition, it is involved in the metabolism of cholesterol. Chromium deficiency correlates with an increased risk of developing metabolic syndrome and an increased incidence of coronary heart disease.

Supplementation with chromium preparations is extremely popular among people striving to reduce unnecessary kilograms. Many people who take chromium observe their appetite becomes regulated, "hunger of a wolf" suppresses, and the cravings for sweets become smaller.
