Taurine Taurine

Scitec Taurine is a dietary supplement which contains taurine - one of the amino acids with versatile action. Thanks to the optimal content of this ingredient, the preparation has a beneficial effect on a post-workout regeneration and indirectly supports the building of muscle tissue. In addition, it can support the nervous system, what results in improving the mood and well-being, and adding the energy and vitality.

Taurine (2-aminoethanesulfonic acid) - an organic acid that contains sulfur in its structure and belongs to the group of biogenic amino acids. Taurine is an amino acid widely distributed in the body, but its highest concentration is observed in the most excitable tissues - skeletal muscles, brain, heart and the retina of the eye. Taurine does not take part in the synthesis of proteins, nor does it act as a substrate for energy metabolism. However, it occurs in the tissues, as well as in the bloodstream.

The pro-health benefits of taurine are focused mainly on the support of the cardiovascular system and antioxidant defense system, while the most well-known application of this amino acid in peri-workout supplementation is the reduction of spasms caused by the consumption of fat burners, for instance ephedrine or caffeine. Taurine is also a very common component of the energy drinks.

The structure of taurine resembles beta-alanine and may be synthesized in the body system through the transformation of other sulfuric amino acids (cysteine and methionine), but they are often inadequate quantities. Therefore, it is extremely important to ensure an adequate supply of this amino acid in the diet. The richest sources of taurine are animal products, hence supplementation is very important for people on a vegetarian diet.

Benefits of taurine for sports performance
As already mentioned, taurine is a non-protein amino acid, so it is not used for the synthesis of muscle proteins. However, it indirectly shows anabolic and anti-catabolic properties. There are several potential mechanisms of the action. One of them is based on the inhibitory effect of taurine on catabolic hormone activity - cortisol and simultaneous stimulation of insulin synthesis - a hormone with an anabolic effect desired by many athletes.

Taurine also has a positive effect on some of the physiological functions associated with the occurrence of exercise fatigue. These include oxidative stress, inflammatory response, regulation of ion channels (in particular calcium channels) and osmoregulation. It has been shown that the taurine level in the skeletal muscles of people who train sports is higher than of people who do not do any sports. Interestingly, rodents in the tissues of which the lower levels of taurine were observed tolerated the physical activity very badly. Based on the above, it can be concluded that this amino acid can be important in relieving fatigue during the exercise and post-workout regeneration.

Taurine also helps to transport creatine to the muscles. Creatine is used to produce energy necessary for the course of many processes (including normal muscle contraction). Creatine is one of the best studied and supplemented substances with ergogenic and anti-catabolic action. Taurine, enhancing the creatine penetration into the muscles, enhances these benefits.

Neuroprotective properties
Taurine acts as a neurotransmitter and neuromodulator. It is characterized by neuroprotective action, and also has a beneficial effect on the process of neurogenesis, which is the formation of new nerve cells. It was also observed that it can protect against glutamate-induced neurotoxicity. Such properties of glutamine are most likely associated with its ability to regulate the level of calcium ions, and more specifically to lower its intracellular concentration.

In summary, Scitec Taurine is a dietary supplement with a multidirectional effect that can be used both- for the  training and health. For physically active people, the properties of taurine will be especially useful for improving the body's performance during the training,  counteracting fatigue and accelerating the post-workout regeneration. For pro-health purposes, taurine can support, among others, in the case of disturbances in carbohydrate metabolism, vision problems and excessive fatigue.

Taurine

Information

Taurine – non-protein amino acid containing sulphur, which is synthesized in the body from methionine and cysteine, present in sufficient amount in human or animal body (in the brain, heart and skeletal), although in some cases must be supplemented. Significantly affects the calcium content in the cells and stabilizes the water and electrolyte balance and maintains acid-base balance. Takes part in the synthesis of bile acids. In the body acts as a neurotransmitter and neuromodulator. It is an insulin-mimetic improving insulin metabolism, responsible for transport of nutrients (such as amino acids, glucose, creatine) to the cells and muscle tissue. These properties determine that it is a valued mono-preparation supplement and valuable addition to creatine and amino acid supplements, recommended for psycho-pchysically active people and athletes and other competitive sportsmen in pre- and post-workout periods.
Dosage: 3 grams per day.
