Jarrow Jarro-Dophilus + FOS is a synbiotic preparation comprehensively supporting immunity and helping to maintain proper intestinal microflora.

In each portion of the product which is 1 g (ca. 1/4 teaspoon) there are 12 billion live cultures of bacteria with a documented effect - they are the following strains: B. longum BB536, L. acidophilus La-14, B. lactis BI-04, L. rhamnosus R0011, L. casei R0215, L. plantarum R1012. Along with them, in the preparation there is a nutritional substance and a natural source of energy for bacteria, i.e. fructooligosaccharides (FOS).

Probiotics are live microbes, which in the proper dose positively influence the health of their host. The mechanism of activity of probiotic bacteria includes many aspects. They are i.a. competitiveness towards pathogen microbes or the ability to produce substances with antibacterial effect.

Positive influence of probiotics on health is also related with their ability to modulate the immune response both at cellular and hormonal level. Many of them has the ability to activate numerous anti-inflammatory cytokines, which helps to inhibit the synthesis of pro-inflammatory compounds. It is especially important e.g. in case of diseases, at the base of which there is chronic inflammation.

Properties of strain-dependent probiotics
It means that a given strain, even of the same kind of family, has specific effectiveness in a given case. It also means that the properties of a given strain cannot be attributed to other, even very closely-related strains, therefore in a good-quality probiotic preparation, bacteria should be described not only with a kind and family, but also a strain.

In this preparation, all bacteria have been described by means of a kind, species and strain, which confirms that their activity was especially well-researched and supported by clinical studies.

Bifidobacterium longum BB536 is often used in milk products. This strain may have influence on alleviation of allergy symptoms - it was proven in one of the studies that the application of this strain in the period of pollination of Japanese cedar, decreased such symptoms as sneezing, liquid nose secretion and the feeling of blocked nose.

Lactobacillus acidophilus La-14 is a strain with an exceptionally long history of safe use. It is characterized by high immunity to acidic environment and the activity of bile, thanks to which it easily reaches duodenum. Moreover, it demonstrates a large level of adhesion to the intestinal epithelium. It was also proven that this strain positively influences modulation of the immune response.

Bifidobacterium lactis Bl-04, apart from the above mentioned features, it plays an important role in the proper functioning of the intestines. It facilitates restoring intestinal microflora after antibiotic therapy.

Lactobacillus rhamnosus R0011 – potential benefits related to the application of this strain are especially visible in post-antibiotic diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome and infection Clostridium difficile. Moreover, it alleviates anxiety and depression symptoms related to stress.

Lactobacillus casei R0215 - has supportive effect in case of intestinal infections. It strengthens immunity, counteracts bacterial and viral infections.

Lactobacillus plantarum R1012 reduces inflammations, counteracts and supports the therapy of diarrhea, positively influences the work of the liver.

Fructooligosaccharides (FOS) as substances stimulating the development of good bacteria

In the preparation there are fructooligosaccharides and inulin, which are classified to prebiotics. Prebiotics are undigested by endogenous enzymes food ingredients, which constitute breading ground for bacteria and stimulate the growth of bacterial flora in the colon.

As a result of the fermentation of fructooligosaccharides, short-chain fatty acids occur (i.a. acetic, lactic, butyric, propionic acids), which contribute to limiting the level of pH, at the same time positively influencing intestinal peristalsis.

To sum up, Jarrow Jarro-Dophilus + FOS is a complex formula, which helps in regulating the composition of intestinal microflora, supports natural immunity and positively influences the activity of the digestive system.

Inulin (dietary fibre soluble in water) belonging to the polysaccharides, present in the natural state in plant tissues storing energy relationship, which affect on the development of intestinal microflora (I.e. Probiotic) and the condition of the gastrointestinal tract and digestive organs (intestines). It has a high bioavailability of minerals (including calcium and magnesium), reduces the growth rate of glucose after meals. Inulin, is not digested by the human body, but it is degraded into short chain fatty acids by lactic acid bacteria growing in the intestines. In the dietary supplementation it is used as insoluble dietary fibre supporting high-protein diets, for example, during weight loss.
