Arjuna Bark Arjuna Bark

Swanson Full Spectrum Arjuna bark is a dietary supplement that contains Arjuna bark extract. As much as 10 g of raw material was used to obtain 1 g of extract.

The product promotes the health of the cardiovascular system and shows a cardioprotective effect. It is recommended mainly for people with risk factors for cardiovascular disease (hypertension, hyperlipidemia).

Arjuna (Terminalia arjuna) is a species of tree that can be found in India and Sri Lanka. Its bark is a valuable healing resource, widely used especially in Ayurvedic medicine. It contains numerous bioactive compounds, such as triterpene glycosides (arjunetosides, arjunic acids), flavonoids, tannins, and minerals.

Inotropic action
The studies have shown that the Arjuna water extract promotes the strengthening of the myocardium and may modulate the strength of its contraction. The exact mechanism of this action has not been yet known, but scientists suppose that it is related to the so-called arterial baroreceptors reflex, the disorders of which are a risk factor and the cause of progression of many cardiovascular diseases. Administration of Arjuna proved to be efficacious in people after heart attacks and in patients with chronic angina and congestive heart failure.

Help in the fight against lipid disorders
High cholesterol and triglyceride levels may increase the risk of atherosclerosis and cardiac problems. It was observed that the Arjuna extract inhibits lipid peroxidation and promotes lowering of cholesterol, especially the most problematic LDL fraction. What's more, animal studies show that cholesterol and triglyceride levels decrease even in case of an unhealthy diet.

Help in the fight against hypertension
Hypertension is another factor that may significantly harm the heart and be the cause of stroke, heart attack or heart failure. Arjuna extracts seem to lower too high blood pressure. The mechanism of action of the plant is not completely clear, but scientists suggest that the bioactive substances present in the bark of the tree block the β2-adrenergic receptor, i.e. they act analogously to popular pharmaceuticals called beta-blockers.

In summary, Swanson Full Spectrum Arjuna bark is a valued element of cardiovascular prophylaxis. The supplement can be recommended especially to individuals at risk of cardiovascular diseases, that is, smokers, people who do not eat properly, have too high cholesterol levels and high blood pressure.
