Now Foods L-Proline is a unique product which is a source of L-proline, an amino acid necessary for the proper functioning of the motor system. This substance is a basic component of collagen. The supplementation of L-proline can improve the condition of joints, cartilages, tendons and help build muscles. It supports the recovery after injuries, fractures and contusions. It has a positive effect on the condition of skin and hair.

L-Proline (abbreviated as Pro) belongs to the group of endogenous amino acids (those synthesised in the body) and is one of 22 protein-building amino acids. Along with hydroxyproline (a metabolite of L-proline), it constitutes a larger part of the amino acid pool contained in collagen. This compound is the main component of connective tissue which joins different types of tissues, provides support for the organs and protects delicate parts of the body.

Owing to its special building, regulatory and protective properties, proline is essential for healthy muscles, bones, joints, tendons and cartilages. The body’s requirements for this amino acid is high and increase rapidly in the event of connective tissue injuries (burn, muscle and tendon strains, fractures). In such case, the body is not able to produce the adequate amount of proline and its high level seems to be the key factor for the proper regeneration of tissue structures.

The importance of L-proline in the body

Proline is one of the most important nutrients necessary for the synthesis of proteins and maintaining healthy connective tissue. It regulates a number of physiological and biochemical processes in cells.

The main role of proline in the body is focused on collagen. Collagen is the most important part of connective tissue, a basic building block for bone tissue, cartilage, skin and blood vessels. It forms a special biological net protecting and supporting almost all cells, tissues and organs of the human body. It can be said that L-proline is a prerequisite for optimal functioning of the whole motor system because, owing to collagen, it maintains healthy joints, tendons, joint cartilages and bones.

By regulating activity of some enzymes (including catalase, peroxidase or polyphenol oxidase), L-proline plays a protective role for many cells. Enzymes activated by proline are involved in neutralising free radicals and protecting cells against their harmful action.

A part of research suggests that proline belongs to the group of compounds regulating the activity of mTOR kinase — a key regulator of metabolism. Complex mechanisms of action of mTOR kinase help gain muscle mass, improve and boost levels of ATP (a basic carrier of cellular energy).

Tests on rats have shown that L-proline affects the activity of hepatocyte growth factor (HGF), playing a key role in the regeneration of organs and healing of wounds.

The benefits of using L-proline
L-proline ensures the proper functioning of the motor system. By restoring collagen (both damaged and used), it keeps joints, tendons and bones in an optimal condition. It is particularly important to athletes and people performing often intense physical activity during which the whole motor system is under heavy strain.

Proline is an ideal support for the body during the treatment of contusion or injuries associated with torn and damaged connective tissue (fracture, tear, burns etc.). It is recommended in the therapy of chronic arthritis and discomfort caused by the degradation of articular cartilage.

Proline is the initiator of protein synthesis and that’s why it can help athletes to build high-quality muscle mass and improve strength capacity. It promotes regeneration after intensive strength training which usually causes the damage to muscle fibres.

This compound has a positive effect on the condition of your skin and hair. It restores hair follicles, stimulates the growth of new, healthy hair. It prevents ageing of the skin, optically smoothes fine lines and wrinkles. It is recommended especially for dry and dehydrated skin because it increases the skin’s ability to bind water.

L-Proline is an ideal supplement which supports the proper functioning of the motor system. It is suitable for people suffering from joint swelling, pain or stiffness.  It should be used as preventive healthcare by athletes and all performing intensive physical activity.

Regular supplementation helps thus avoid many dangerous contusions as a consequence of the strain caused to muscles, joints and tendonds during heavy workouts. The richest natural source of proline are products containing a lot of protein. People on vegetarian and low-protein diet are exposed to the deficiency of L-proline and they should therefore make use of supplements with proven efficacy.

Proline - endogenous amino acid, one of the 22 amino acids building proteins. As a result of the conversion (carried out with the participation of vitamin C) in the form of hydroxy-proline, it is the ingredient of collagen ( basic protein of connective tissue). Influences positively the locomotor system especially in people exposed to an overload (e.g. strength and endurance sports athletes) and during rehabilitation after injury or surgery of locomotor system organs. It is naturally occurring in food, or is synthesized in the body from glutamate. In the dietary supplementation it is a component of high-protein nutrients, amino acid products (in the form of proline or hydroxy-proline), and supporting the functioning of the locomotor system that contains collagen available at
