Moreover, the supplement positively influences the state of health, increases immunity and may constitute an element of circulatory system diseases prevention.

The preparation is recommended to people having tendencies to breaking vessels, varicose veins and also with the aim of general immunity improvement in the periods of the organism’s weakening and increased susceptibility to infections. The supplement may be also used as a support in civilization diseases prophylaxis and as a therapy supplementation in case of already existing diseases.

The influence of flavonoids on health
Flavonoids are natural compounds of plant origin, which thanks to their unusual biological properties enjoy large interest in the world of medicine and are the subject of numerous scientific research. These compounds have antioxidant, antiagregatic properties, tighten blood vessels, lower blood pressure, thanks to which they contribute to a large extent to lowering the risk of civilization diseases, especially those of cardio-vascular origin. Rutin among others belongs to flavonoid compounds.

Rutin – also called quercetin-3-O-rutinoside or rutinoside is a substance that may be derived, among others, from the extract of Styphnolobium japonicum and buckwheat herb Fagopyrum esculentum. This substance constitutes the combination of quercetin and rutinoside and demonstrated the confirmed pro-health effect on the human organism.

High antioxidant potential
Basic rutin activity is related to its strong antioxidant properties. Rutin effectively neutralizes the excess of free radicals, which is the main cause of disorders at the cellular level (mainly regarding the damages of protein structures, DNA material) and homeostasis violation. These factors in turn may lead to such civilization diseases as: cancers, strokes, coronary artery disease, heart attacks, diabetes.

Prolonged activity of vitamin C
Rutin inhibits the activity of oxidase responsible of ascorbic acid oxidation to oxalic acid, by which it contributes to the increase of vitamin C level in the organism. Moreover, it facilitates ascorbic acid absorption from the digestive tract.

Reinforcement of blood vessels
This compound, as a hyaluronidase inhibitor and antioxidant limits permeability, fragility and brittleness of blood vessels and elasticizes them, thanks to which it increases their resilience to damages and negative influence of reactive oxygen forms. This mechanism is connected also to, among others, the activity of vitamin C – these substances contribute to the creation of bonds between polypeptide chains in the collagen fibers, which positively influences not only blood vessels, but also other connective tissues.

Moreover, reduced permeability of capillaries leads to limiting exudate and reducing edema, thanks to which rutin also constitutes an effective means supplementing varicose veins treatment.

Support for the circulatory system and protection against atherosclerotic changes
This substance lowers the level of the LDL fraction of cholesterol in blood, lowers blood pressure, increases the strength of heart muscle contraction and contributes to the growth of cardiac output, thanks to which it is attributed anti-atherosclerotic effect. Additionally, rutin mitigates the inflammatory process accompanying the development of arteriosclerotic plaques and has anticoagulant effect.

Vision protection
Rutin contributes to lowering intraocular pressure and protects vision against the activity of free radicals. Moreover, it may have a detoxifying effect in the case of methyl alcohol poisoning. This substance counteracts the accumulation of a toxic substance in the eye and nervous tissue, thanks to which it minimizes the damages made as a result of poisoning, therefore reducing the risk of retinopathy.

Other properties of rutin
On top of that, the substance demonstrates anti-allergic effect and supports the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). It has been observed that rutin may also mitigate the effects of radiation exposure, used in the treatment of cancer.

Summing up, NOW FOODS Rutin is a preparation which is worth using as diet supplementation, as rutin unfortunately is not synthesized by the human organism and its intake, especially among people avoiding citrus fruit may turn out to be too low. The preparation, among others thanks to its ability to increase the activity of vitamin C, positively influences tightness of capillaries, thanks to which it lowers susceptibility to infections and may turn out to be especially useful in case of infections and immune system weakening. Moreover, the supplement successfully supports the treatment of swellings and varicose veins and may constitute an effective means in preventing arteriosclerosis and other cardiovascular diseases.
