Glycine is a relatively exogenous amino acid of a simple structure, synthesized from serine. As a supplement it has an extremely high safety profile, it is well tolerated and even with long-term use it usually does not cause any side effects. It is primarily used to strengthen the condition of the nervous system and optimize cognitive health.

Glycine supplements may be helpful in case of mild depressive disorders and weakening of cognitive functions. Studies have shown that glycine is involved in the regulation of transmission in the glutamatergic system, and its deficiency often correlates with mood depression and intensification of depression symptoms. Increased supply of glycine seems to have a positive effect on memory and the pace of knowledge acquisition. In addition, glycine has clinically proven effectiveness in improving the quality of sleep – it shortens latency, deepens sleep, and reduces the frequency of waking up at night.

Glycine may be recommended for people struggling with metabolic diseases. According to scientific sources, glycine promotes the improvement of tissue sensitivity to insulin and is also characterized by a strong anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity. As a component of bile acids, it may also improve the digestion and metabolism of fats.
