Yohimbine – a polycyclic alkaloid found mainly in the bark of the African yohimbe tree and in the Asian shrub called Indian snakeroot. It is valued especially for its aphrodisiac properties that make erections stronger, as well as among fitness fans because of its energising effect and the ability to accelerate fat reduction in problem areas. It is usually found in supplements in the form of a hydrochloride.
How does yohimbine work?
Yohimbine’s unique properties stem from its interaction with the adrenergic system, which is a little different than in most cases. Most hormones and agents that react with the system are agonists of both alpha and beta receptors, which is not always the perfect scenario, especially when you’re trying to reduce your adipose tissue. Yohimbine has the unique ability to antagonise alpha2 receptors, which is why it stands out from other stimulants and brings additional benefits.
Apart from benefits on the cellular level stemming from its interaction with alpha receptors, yohimbine can also increase noradrenaline levels. That is because of its ability to “trick” the feedback loop – blocked alpha receptors are wrongly considered by the organism as noradrenaline deficiency, which stimulates it to release more.
Stubborn fat burning
Noradrenaline is one of the factors that stimulate the release of fat reserves from adipocytes the most, so its increase obviously translates into more efficient fat reduction. It works through beta-adrenergic receptors, which initiate an increase in the activity of adenylyl cyclase when stimulated. The enzyme is responsible for the formation of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP), a secondary messenger that strongly stimulates the process of releasing triglycerides stored in a cell. However, as mentioned before, noradrenaline stimulates both alpha and beta types of receptors, where activating alpha receptors has the opposite effect to beta receptors, reducing the activity of adenylyl cyclase.
The problem with stubborn fat is that the surface of adipose cells it consists of contains more alpha than beta receptors, which makes burning it in the traditional way extremely difficult. The solution for that situation is yohimbine and its antagonist effect to the receptors that stand in your way, which allows you to take advantage of the entire power of activated beta receptors.
Thanks to those properties, yohimbine proves fantastic especially in the final stage of fat reduction, for example before a competition or when preparing for summer. Its activity should also prove helpful for people with uneven fat distribution, when adipose tissue is deposited particularly in the lower abdomen and, in the case of ladies, in thighs and buttocks.
Improved sexual performance
Yohimbine is often used as an aphrodisiac as well. Because of its ability to increase vasodilation, it increases blood flow in sex organs, thanks to which it can make erections stronger and intercourses – more satisfactory. The effect is even stronger because of its ability to increase blood pressure slightly, which improves blood flow to the right places even more. Yohimbine is often used before PDE5 inhibitors, such as sildenafil or tadalafil.
Tests conducted on rats have demonstrated the possibility of reversing the effect of reduced libido caused by some drugs, such as naloxone, with the use of yohimbine. The mechanism of the alkaloid’s influence on sex drive is independent of testosterone levels. Interestingly, it proves efficient not only in the case of dysfunctions related with blood flow problems, but also in psychogenic erectile dysfunctions.
Yohimbine’s stimulant effect stems above all from the increase in noradrenaline levels in synapses. The neurotransmitter is one of the factors that participate in the fight or flight mechanism, making us alert and increasing the capacity of the nervous system. Yohimbine in larger doses is also a mild antagonist of some serotonin receptors because of its structure containing a tryptamine group. Blocking serotonin, a hormone that can make you feel a bit lazy, is an additional asset for people who seek psychophysical stimulation.
An important fact is that yohimbine shouldn’t have a negative effect on sleep quality. There have been no night-time melatonin drops observed in tests on people who use the supplement. Thanks to that, you don’t have to worry about the contradictory situation when the positive effects of the supplement are reversed by worse sleep quality, which is also extremely important for good well-being, smooth regeneration and efficient fat burning.
Apollo's Hegemony Yohimbine HCl is recommended particularly for people who need support in the last stage of fat reduction because of its ability to make stubborn fat easier to burn and its energising effect that can improve well-being during calorie deficits maintained for a long time. It can also be used for increasing sex drive and making erections stronger.
Yohimbine HCl is a fantastic agent for supporting the last stage of fat reduction, when the tissue remaining in the so-called problem areas, such as lower abdomen, thighs and buttocks, is the most troublesome. Its activity is the most effective when there is little insulin in the system, so it should be used some time before or after high-carbohydrate meals. For additional benefits, it is worth to take one of the portions before workout.
Because of its stimulant effect, it is not advised to take the supplement in the evening. The optimal dosage is 0.2 mg for every kilogram of body mass; however, it is a good idea to start with the minimum dosage, that is one capsule a day, in order to check the organism’s reaction, and then increase it when needed and split it into two portions a day.
