DHEA DHEA

MRM DHEA is a dietary supplement with micronized dehydroepiandrosterone in the amount of 25 mg in one capsule.

DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone) - an essential hormone of the androgenic corticosteroids; produced from pregnenolone (created from cholesterol) by the zona reticularis of adrenal cortex. In fact, it is a prohormone, as it is converted in peripheral tissues into stronger androgens and oestrogens (DHEA is a weak androgen), for example into androstenedione which, as a result of reduction at position C-17, creates testosterone.

Biological functions
In terms of its chemical structure, DHEA exhibits strong similarity to testosterone and oestradiol, which makes it difficult to convert. The hormone stimulates protein synthesis and growth in the organism as well as develops some secondary male characteristics. Moreover, it affects the increase in muscle anabolism. In the central nervous system, it performs the function of a neurotransmitter - it exhibits properties antagonist to GABA receptors.

Youth hormone
DHEA production - both in women and in men - reaches its maximum at the age of about 20-25 years old. After that, the level of the hormone in blood plasma decreases by 3% every year in both sexes. Proper supplementation in elderly people allows restoring the level from the time of youth.

Supplementation benefits
Scientists have not determined the exact meaning of DHEA in healthy people and in those with a disease but it is argued that proper supplementation of its deficiency can be helpful in the following ailments: cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, hypercholesterolemia, obesity, multiple sclerosis, neurodegenerative diseases, immune system disorders, depression and osteoporosis.

Positive effect on women
There are scientific reports about the benefits of administering DHEA in women with premature menopause1. Moreover, it has been observed that DHEA supplementation in the case of female patients with premature ovarian failure increases the possibility of pregnancy, reduces the risk of miscarriage and makes successful in vitro fertilisation more probable2.

Application in adrenal insufficienc
Numerous academic studies and diagnostic tests have shown that in patients with primary adrenal insufficiency, the concentration of DHEA and DHEA-S in blood serum is negligent3. Proper supplementation of those deficiencies allows the improvement of well-being, the mood, the libido, as well as it has a positive effect on the people's life quality. Average recommended dosage is 25 mg taken in the morning4.

To sum up, MRM DHEA is a dietary supplement recommended for the elderly, people with adrenal insufficiency, in the period of premature menopause, as well as individual deficiency supplementation. Sportspeople might be interested in its anabolic properties which increase muscle protein synthesis.
