Source Naturals Serene Science® L-Theanine Serene™ is a dietary supplement which contains 300 mg of magnesium, 500 mg of GABA, 450 mg of taurine, 200 mg of L-theanine and 100 mg of the extract from Holy Basil leaves in a single capsule.

L-Theanine – is a non-protein nitrogenous amino acid derived from green tea. It shows relaxing and calming properties, however it does not cause stupor effects. It easily crosses the blood-brain barrier and increases the intensity of alpha waves. Thanks to that it not only calms down but can also improve thinking processes and information absorption. It is also very effective in suppressing negative effects caused by stimulants, such as caffeine.

Magnesium – is a mineral which is necessary in the human diet. Magnesium ions are responsible for the regulation of blood pressure. They maintain the proper structure of ribosomes, are a building material of bones and participate in the neurotransmission. The appropriate level of magnesium allows also for the proper tissue sensitivity to insulin.

Magnesium deficiencies are common in the First World countries. They result from excessive fertilization of soil with chemical compounds and from an increasing number of preservatives that are added to food. Our food choices are also not insignificant. Thus, it is worth keeping the appropriate magnesium level.

GABA – is the main inhibitory neurotransmitter. In the human body system, it plays an important role in relaxation and the reduction of anxiety and muscle tension.

Taurine – is a chemical compound which belongs to a group of biogenic amino acids. In the brain, it plays a role of a neurotransmitter that has an affinity for GABAergic receptors, which is responsible for its sedative properties. It regulates the concentration of potassium and calcium in cells. It has an ability to transport creatine and protect DNA molecules, so it can improve regeneration at night.

Holy Basil – is an adaptogenic plant which has been used for thousands years in the Eastern medicine. Its main function is the modulation of the body system response to stressful situations as well as anxiety reduction. Moreover, it shows antioxidant properties and is able to improve immunity as well as plays a role of an aphrodisiac as it improves libido.

The ingredients of L-Theanine Serene ™ were selected in such a way that they act synergistically. All above described ingredients promote stress reduction, sedation , physical and mental relaxation.

Comprehensive action
The ingredients of the product have been selected in such a way that they have a multidirectional influence on the nervous system. Magnesium supplementation improves nerve conduction, lowers blood pressure and relaxes the muscles. Theanine, next to its basic properties, also raises the concentration of nitric oxide, which in turn improves the GABA crossing the blood-brain barrier. Moreover, taurine affects the GABAergic system by attaching to GABA receptors. It also improves regeneration during sleep. Holy Basil reduces mental stress and shows antioxidant properties by reducing oxidative stress.

Modulation of stress response
Holy Basil is known for its beneficial impact on people who suffer from chronic stress. It is one of the most popular and commonly used adaptogenic plants. As an aphrodisiac, it can also while away the time as well as it indirectly affects relaxation.

It gives impressive effects in combination with L-theanine, which reduces both chronic and temporary stress caused for example by training. GABA and taurine are also not without significance, as the agonism of GABAergic receptors in the particular parts of the brain affects the regulation of adrenals functions.

Improvement of sleep quality
Sleep disorders are often caused by excessive stimulation late in the evening – mass of thoughts and tense muscles definitely do not favour falling asleep. Multidirectional action of L-Theanine Serene™ will promote falling asleep and improve sleep quality, which will make you get up refreshed and full of energy in the morning.

L-Theanine Serene™ is especially recommended for nervous people who are exposed to excessive stress. It will be also helpful for people who want to improve relaxation and the quality of sleep.

Magnesium (element from the group of alkaline earth metals, atomic no. 12, a chemical symbol - Mg), one of the most important health microelements, participates in the synthesis process of the disintegration of high energy compounds and processes of transformation of hydrocarbons and fats. It affects the dilation of blood vessels and lower blood pressure, prevents hypercoagulable state. Shortages affect cardiac arrhythmias, malignant muscle cramps, insomnia and anxiety. It is a component of many dietary supplements and found in foods such as whole grain bread, legumes, buckwheat, rice, fish, meat, as well as chocolate, cocoa and nuts.
Dosage of 100 - 500 mg / day

GABA (gamma amino butyric acid) is an amino acid neurotransmitter fulfilling the role of suppressing, of which precursor is the glutamate (neurotransmitter) excitatory neurotransmitter. Reduces psychophysical tension and cortisol levels, enhances the synthesis of growth hormone having anti-catabolic and regenerating properties. Higher need for GABA by the organism occurs with overtraining, mental exhaustion of the body (stress, depression). Supplementation sports and for physically active people recommended after and during intense exercise. GABA is available in the form of mono-preparation supplement and multicomponent formulations to support the regeneration of the night regenerateion and relaxation of the nervous system.
Dosage: 0,5-3g daily approx. 1 hour before bedtime (single dose, customarily in supplementation).

Taurine – non-protein amino acid containing sulphur, which is synthesized in the body from methionine and cysteine, present in sufficient amount in human or animal body (in the brain, heart and skeletal), although in some cases must be supplemented. Significantly affects the calcium content in the cells and stabilizes the water and electrolyte balance and maintains acid-base balance. Takes part in the synthesis of bile acids. In the body acts as a neurotransmitter and neuromodulator. It is an insulin-mimetic improving insulin metabolism, responsible for transport of nutrients (such as amino acids, glucose, creatine) to the cells and muscle tissue. These properties determine that it is a valued mono-preparation supplement and valuable addition to creatine and amino acid supplements, recommended for psycho-pchysically active people and athletes and other competitive sportsmen in pre- and post-workout periods.
Dosage: 3 grams per day.

L-theanine is an amino acid, not building proteins, occurring naturally in the dried green tea leaves, absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, overcomes easily blood-brain barrier, affecting the nervous system and the relation between neurotransmitters (e.g.dDopamine, serotonin, gamma-aminobutyric acid), with a relaxing effect and increases the psycho-physical capacity, (concentration, memory, alertness). Recommended for use for people burdened with considerable physical effort, athletes of sport disciplines that require concentration and memory, also for students in the period before exams. Available in the form of mono-preparations and multi-component relaxing and post-workout anti-stress supplements..
Dosage: customarily used in supplementation 50-200mg per day
