Now Foods Boron is a dietary supplement that enriches the diet with boron. The form of this element used in the preparation, guarantees high bioavailability, which contributes to the effectiveness of supplementation.

The preparation helps to maintain the health of the osteoarticular system and reduces the risk of osteoporosis. It is recommended especially for menopausal women, who, due to the limited production of oestrogens, are particularly vulnerable to osteoporosis. The supplement can also be taken by men who want to increase the testosterone level.

Boron is an element belonging to the so-called group of trace elements. It is not synthesized in the human body, which is why it is provided mainly with food. Good sources of boron are green vegetables, nuts, some fruits and whole-wheat products. The role of this element in the body is not entirely clear. It is known that it affects the calcium and magnesium metabolism and is necessary for the proper development of the skeleton. In addition, it plays role in the endocrine system, supports the functions of brain cells and is involved in the work of the immune system.

Boron strengthens the skeletal system
The studies have proven that boron supplementation increases bone mineral density. Researchers have shown that its deficiency weakens bones and joints, increases susceptibility to fractures and increases the risk of osteoporosis. Dramatically low boron level is also observed in patients suffering from chronic arthritis.

The mechanism of boron’s activity is complex. It seems that it affects the gene expression and the functions of hormones and prohormones which are involved in the processes of bone tissue mineralisation (mainly 17beta-estradiol and vitamin D). The tests show that the concentration of 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 increases automatically as the boron level increases. Boron can improve effectiveness of vitamin D3 supplementation.

Boron works closely with the elements that determine the health of the skeleton, namely magnesium, calcium and phosphorus. It increases magnesium absorption and facilitates its deposition in the bones. In addition, it protects against calcium loss and prevents bone demineralization processes. Studies clearly show that increased boron intake automatically results in a reduction in calcium and magnesium excretion through the urine.

Boron can also be used in the treatment of certain diseases of the osteoarticular system. It shows anti-inflammatory properties, which is why it works well for people struggling with arthritis or rheumatoid arthritis. In one of the studies, it was shown that as early as a few hours after taking the boron dose, the C-reactive protein level (CRP) declines which is the main inflammatory indicator in the body.

Boron strengthens the endocrine system
Boron is quite active in the endocrine system and is important for maintaining the proper level of key sex hormones. In women, it has a very beneficial effect on oestrogen concentration. This is especially visible in menopausal women for whom the endogenous synthesis of this hormone is systematically decreasing. The studies have shown that 3 mg of boron per day is enough to raise the level of 17-beta estradiol (a biologically active form of oestrogen). This contributes to alleviate the typical, troublesome symptoms of menopause, and what is more it reduces the risk of osteoporosis.

For men, boron contributes to an increase in the testosterone level. As the research shows,
1-week supplementation with 6 mg of boron in healthy men resulted in significant increase in free testosterone concentration. It seems that boron is a promising supplement, especially for elderly men, as concentration of a globulin SHBG naturally increases with age, and the level of free testosterone declines.

Boron strengthens the cognitive functions
Researchers are convinced that boron has a beneficial effect on brain cell activity. Experimental studies show that boron elimination from the diet even for a very short period negatively affects memory and mental performance. Similarly, deficiency supplementation contributes to memory improvement, greater ability to focus attention and improvement of psychomotor skills.

Antimicrobial properties
Boron has strong antimicrobial properties. Few people know that popular borax, which is used as a disinfectant and cleaner in many households to fight insects, is simply the boron compound. Also popular antifungals are effective only when they contain the boron atom. Scientists believe that the antifungal properties of this element result from its ability to inhibit the enzyme involved in the translation of pathogenic fungal DNA.

In conclusion, Now Foods Boron is a safe way to supplement any possible boron deficiencies. It is recommended especially for those who have weak, decalcified bones, poor digestion of minerals, lose excessive amounts of calcium and magnesium and who are at risk of osteoporosis. Supplementation is also recommended for people of both sexes who enter the period of menopause (women) and andropause (men).
