Description
  • A supplement of magnesium deficiency
  • Magnesium is a component of many enzymes
  • Healthy cardiovascular system
  • May be helpful in muscle contractures
  • Supports functions of the nervous system
  • Included in bone structure
  • Useful in chronic stress

Now Foods Magnesium Malate is a dietary supplement that contains 1000 mg of magnesium malate in one tablet, which is an equivalent of 115 mg of pure magnesium. This is the dose corresponding to 29% of the daily demand for this mineral. Magnesium malate is a combination of one molecule of malic acid with two molecules of magnesium. Both components have a beneficial effect on human health.

Magnesium is a mineral that is essential for production of energy, metabolism, normal cardiovascular function, muscle contraction, transmission of nerve impulses and bone mineralisation. The absorption of this element takes place in the small intestine and its levels in the body depends on the functional status of the digestive system and kidneys.

Biological function
Is a cofactor for approximately 300 enzymes. Among the reactions catalysed by these enzymes are fatty acid synthesis, protein synthesis and glucose metabolism. There are 100 reactions in the Crebs cycle in which magnesium is very essential.

Magnesium is a coenzyme or an activator of many enzymes, especially those related to the transfer of phosphate groups. It is involved in many metabolic pathways associated with the transformation of proteins, nucleic acids, lipids, carbohydrates and also in the transport of electrolytes through cell membranes.

Magnesium in numbers
In terms of quantity, magnesium is the fourth cation in the human body and the second intracellular cation after potassium. In the body of an adult is found from 20 to 28 grams of magnesium, of which 49% is located inside cells.

Magnesium and the nervous system
Magnesium is an important regulator of the nervous system. It plays an important role in the production and storage of energy in the form of high-energy compounds. It improves consequently our concentration, memory and mood. As a catalyst for the combustion of glucose, it is responsible for the supply of energy to tissues and cells in the body, especially to nerve cells sensitive to its deficiency.

The magnesium deficiency can cause sleeping disorders, hyperactivity and chronic fatigue. A human with the deficiency of this element is absent-minded and is not able to focus long on one activity. Permanent stress and chronic mental tension related to overwork, life "in a hurry" may increase further the magnesium deficiency.

Magnesium and muscle contractures
Calf cramps is a characteristic symptom of the magnesium deficiency. This condition commonly occurs under the influence of certain external stimuli or muscle strain as a result of physical effort. It affects often women in the final months of pregnancy. The calf cramps can appear during sleep. They usually disappear spontaneously, but are extremely painful.

Magnesium and cardiovascular system
Magnesium has a key role in the proper functioning of the cardiovascular system. It promotes muscle relaxation, that's why its deficiency can cause the contraction of one of coronary arteries, which in turn can lead to a heart attack, even in people who previously had no cardiac problems.

A small amount of magnesium can also cause heart arrhythmia which is a condition in which the heart works irregularly. It happens so because magnesium deficiency leads to electrical instability at the level of cardiac muscle cells.

Magnesium also prevents the formation of blood clots, as it reduces the tendency of blood platelets to form clumps and then there is less likelihood of clotting and blockage of a blood vessel.

Magnesium also affects the regulation of blood pressure. It lowers the resistance in blood vessels, and thus the pressure. Low concentration of magnesium in the body is associated with reduced levels of potassium and increase in levels of sodium which contributes to high blood pressure.

Malic acid (succinic acid) is an organic compound ocurring naturally in apples and rhubarb. It is involved in cellular respiration at the stage of the Krebs cycle – a recurring series of metabolic processes leading to the generation of energy. After oral exposure, it stimulates the secretion of saliva and intestinal juice, increases peristalsis, limits the development of pathogenic bacteria and fungi.

To sum up, the dietary supplement Now Foods Magnesium Malate can support the body by reducing commonly occuring and health-harmful effects of deficiency, related to one of the most crucial element, which is magnesium.
